Nigeria’s fast-rising music icon, Burna Boy, is making the news again within the West Africa sub-region entertainment and showbiz circle after he declared himself as the best artist in Africa since late Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Kuti, passed on.

“In Fact! I always knew that I was and I’m the best. Everyone you think is the best know I am the best since Fela Kuti, but Timaya told me something a long time ago that made me not care about being the best. “The World can do without the Best” the world will still spin regardless,” he declared.

The Nigerian artist said he is a self-made artist disregarding claims that he was shinning on a beaten path courtesy of music giants that have passed on. He said nobody paved way for him as everyone was busy finding their ground.

The Grammy-nominated Nigerian artist tweeted, “if you knew the way they made us look weak by begging and paying the western world to like us you will see that no table was set and I am the one that earned you the Respect you currently enjoy”

Also, Burna Boy said he is not moved by pretentious admiration and that he will walk his talk and attains the height of his drum beats.

This unprecedented announcement and self-appreciation have sparked mixed feelings from the Nigerian music community judging by how invaluable the African Giants singer is and his inputs to the propagation and the global recognition of Nigeria’s music industry.

Recall that just recently the artist lost his 2020 Grammy nomination to the Afro-fusion heavy-weight, Angelique Kidjo of the Benin republic.

Some of the fans believe that Burna Boy does not just say things without backing it up with actions. They said he’s an African giant and has been making mad waves since, even to the point of getting a Grammy nomination to crown his efforts.

Others are of the view that he is speaking out of pride and should be careful if he wished to go far in his music career as there are still more grounds to cover.
