7 Simple Ways to Get Water Out Of Your Ear

If you’re looking for how to get water out of your hear then chances are that while bathing or taking a swim, water must’ve found its way into your ear canal.

Water trapped into the ear can be really uncomfortable and this can also lead to a type of infection called swimmers infection if left undrained for too long. This usually happens from swimming or while bathing, it might drain out after a while but sometimes it doesn’t and can cause some inconvenience to the body.

This can be avoided by wearing a cap or earplug while bathing or swimming and although it is not something that happens often, but when it does happen there are some easy methods you can use to get the water out.

The water only takes a day or two before it drains itself out but If that does not happen, then you can use any of the methods listed below to try getting it out and these are home remedies you can try them at home yourself.

The ear is also as fragile as every other part of the body, the longer the water stays, the faster your ear gets irritated.

1. Apply A Hot Compress

  • Use hot water but not extremely hot, dip a washcloth in it and make sure to wring the cloth to avoid dripping
  • Tilt your head down on the affected side and apply the washcloth to the outer side of your ear, leave it on your ear for 30 minutes, to warm the inner part of the ear up and release the water.
  • Repeat this process 3-4 times and you can lie down on the affected side of the ear, for fast result.

2. Jiggle Your Earlobe

We are sure this is the method everyone is familiar with but do you know you might be doing it the wrong way?

You should not put too much pressure on it, jiggle your earlobe gently while tilting your head in a downward motion towards your shoulder. You can also shake your head from side to side to get the water out.

3. Try Using Alcohol And Vinegar Eardrops

The combination of both can be used to drain your ear of water before it turns into an infection and this also can be used to cure an infection called Otitis externa (3)

  • Mix half rubbing alcohol with half rubbing vinegar to form a solution
  • Apply a couple of the solution on the affected ear or both.
  • Should be used if you detect you are repeatedly getting water in your ear.

4. Create A Vacuum In Your Ear

Creating a vacuum in your ear might also be more preferred to jiggling, it is easy and if the water has not gone too deep, you can get rid of it easily with this technique.

Do not do this with the ear facing upward so you do not drive the water further inside.

  • Tilt your ear down and place your finger and make a vacuum with your finger by pushing and pulling rapidly. In a moment the water should come out of your ear very quickly.
  • It is also important to massage your ear in a clockwise motion after you get the water out, to release moisture and prevent infection especially if the water has been in for a while.

5. Try Olive Oil

Olive oil has more essential benefits beyond skin care, it will get rid of the water and also prevents infection in the process. Here is how you can use olive oil with no stress.

  • Warm a little amount of olive oil in a bowl
  • Get a clean dropper, use it to get a few drops into your ear
  • Lie on the affected side of the ear for about 10 minutes, the water and the oil should be out of your ear by then.

There’s more olive oil can do for you. For example, olive oil on breast may help you get a more firm breast.

6. Use Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide contains ingredients that gets rid of bacterias and it warm enough to get the water in your ear drained out and in the case of ear infection, hydrogen peroxide can help reduce the risk of it’s spread to the other ear.

  • Tilt your ear up to make it easy for the hydrogen to sink in
  • Put a drop or two of hydrogen peroxide in your ear
  • Lay on the affected part of the ear for 10 minutes, the water should be out by then

7. Yawn And Chew

This two process is not just working on the part of your mouth alone but enhances the muscles around the ear and the stress on it will cause the water to flow out.

You do not need to chew forcefully though, gently but firmly will work the muscles.

It is important that you take note if the water in your ear is not coming out faster than it should and if you are constantly getting water into your ear then you should consider wearing a swimming cap or earplug while bathing and swimming respectively.
